Thingum

Within this body of art, materials and objects are repurposed into instruments composed of handmade kinetic components that affirm the importance of resilience in an era of increasing cultural conflict and environmental damage. My projects seek to challenge destructive notions of masculinity by embodying activities that prioritize empathy and repair. Over the course of the past decade, air has served as a principal medium in much of my work. I have compacted breath into water, trapped air inside car shaped inflatables, and inverted the airflow of salvaged vacuum cleaners to sustain transparent geodesic balloons. Air is a vital necessity while remaining nearly imperceptible. The baffling qualities of the medium are emblematic of the complex problems that trouble contemporary being.
